Since even a minor accident can drastically affect or even end an athlete’s career, insurance for professionals in this field is legally required. Professional sports insurance can be contracted by sports organisations but also by physical and legal entities. Professional athletes are considered to be all athletes who participate in national level competitions. This insurance is generally contracted for one year or the duration of a sports competition.
Sports insurance protects the athlete in the event of an accident in following cases:
- During competition or training in the specified type/branch of sport
- When participating in other activities of the sports organisation, such as meetings, conferences, procurement of equipment
- During a trip made for the purposes of practising the given sport
Similar to mandatory employee insurance, this insurance covers costs and fees resulting from:
- Temporary inability to work
- Hospitalisation, rehabilitation and other medical services and medication
- Permanent or temporary disability
- Accidental death
